iPad 2 rumors: 7-inch iPad 2?

A 7-inch iPad 2 coming soon? It's not the first time this questions been asked. There have been a lot of iPad 2 rumors around the web lately and almost all of them refer to the 7-inch iPad 2 screen display size. What's heating up these rumours is the upcoming release of the iPad 2 which is expected (to come FaceTime ready) for Christmas or early next year at the latest. Currently, we can't be sure what's true and what's not, but there are some chances we will get a 2nd generation iPad and most probably it will feature a smaller 7-inch iPad 2 screen display.

According to DigiTimes, it seems like the new 7-inch iPad 2 will feature a Cortex A9 CPU with 512MB of RAM, while it will have the same resolution as the 9.7-inch iPad ( 1,024×768 ). On the other side, Economic Daily News state that the new 7-inch IPS pannels will be supplied by Chi Mei and LG and it will be assembled by Foxconn along with Pegatron or Compal. A new iPad 2 rumor says a 2nd generation iPad with a smaller 7-inch screen is set to land by Christmas. The iPad 2 rumor comes from Taiwanese paper Economic Daily News. Now we have a new rumor claiming a 7-inch iPad 2, weighting just 500 grams, compared to the 700 grams 9.7-inch iPad currently in stores. It is worth noting that this newspaper was among the first to correctly say that the iPad would be a tablet not a netbook.

The touchscreen tech will reportedly come from Cando Corporation. Apple has also reportedly fingered Compal Electronics to assemble the iPad 2. There have been no official confirmation from any of the named companies that thy are in fact working on a new iPad 2.

While there is still a lot of unfinalized details, but preliminary specifications indicated that the 2nd generation iPad will be much lighter with merely 1.1 pounds (versus 1.5 pounds for existing model) thanks to its smaller panel at diagonal 7-inch as compared to 9.7-inch for current iPad. However, it will be redesigned with much powerful ARM Cortex-A9 (current version is based on Cortex-A8 architecture) with 512MB memory RAM with unknown storage capacity. The release date for the new 7-inch iPad 2 is rumored to be late 2010 or early 2011, though I would place a bet on March - April 2011, if it were to be true. Unfortunately, there aren't any more details to be said, all we have to do is wait for new iPad 2 rumors or even an official announcement.
